Dr Claire Trant and Dr Jay Bullen founded Untap Health in 2021. Its plug-and-play system sits in a building's wastewater and tests it continuously in real time, detecting harmful bacteria and viruses before people show symptoms.

Customers include hospitals, cruise ships, airports, farms, the University of Cambridge and Imperial College London. Untap has identified norovirus in a community before it spread, and it says its system can detect disease up to ten days earlier than traditional methods. It has been supported by Innovate UK.
