About the data
CorpNS shows every company on the UK register, using official open data from Companies House.
Where it comes from
Company names, numbers, status, registered offices, incorporation dates, industry codes and accounts deadlines come from the Companies House Free Company Data Product, which lists every live company on the UK register. We reload it every month.
Net assets, turnover, profit, cash and employee numbers are read from the accounts companies file at Companies House in machine-readable form. Not every company files every figure: small companies often file only a balance sheet.
Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
What net assets mean
Net assets are what a company owns minus what it owes, as stated in its most recent accounts. They are sometimes called net worth or shareholders' funds. They are not a valuation of the business, and they can be out of date by up to 21 months, which is how long companies have to file.
What we do not show
We do not show the people on the register: no directors, owners, dates of birth or home addresses. The only people on CorpNS are the business people on our People page, written from public sources that each profile lists; any ranking or net worth is the one a named publication gave, never ours. We do not estimate or invent company figures: if a figure is not in the filed accounts, we show a dash.
Independence
CorpNS is independent. It is not part of, or endorsed by, Companies House or any government body. The official record is always the one at Companies House.
