Tara Spielhagen had the idea for Swiipr after being stranded by a cancelled flight, and founded it in 2019 with fintech expert Ian Clowes. Airlines use Swiipr to give disrupted passengers prepaid physical or virtual Mastercards they can spend on food and drink, at pharmacies and newsagents.
Swiipr raised £6m in Series A funding, and 26 airlines across 70 countries use it.
Number 29 on the Startups 100 Index 2025.
