Ronan Finnegan and Harry Kimberley-Bowen founded spacebands in Cardiff in 2020, after seeing that safety audits only flagged problems once accidents had happened. Its wearable sensors detect hazards on construction and manufacturing sites in real time, including loud noise, hand-arm vibration, moving machinery, restricted zones and missing protective equipment, and alert the worker directly.

spacebands has onboarded five of the UK's largest construction companies. It beat its £60k seed target and then raised £1m in a round led by US firm Evergreen Mountain Equity Partners, and it won the GTR Young Exporter of the Year award in 2022.

Number 32 on the Startups 100 Index 2026.
