Kate Margolis and Garry Clarke founded PetProov in 2023 after Margolis lost £500 to a puppy scam. It is the UK's first pet verification platform, using government-grade identity checks so buyers and adopters know who they are dealing with; sellers can upload documents such as vaccination records, and verification costs £4.99 per pet.

In July 2025 PetProov secured a six-figure investment from serial entrepreneur James Butcher. It is the technology partner of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Animal Welfare and has worked with Napo Pet Insurance and the charity All Dogs Matter.

Number 75 on the Startups 100 Index 2026.
