About

OXCCU is a University of Oxford spin-out founded in 2021 by Andrew Symes, Dr Jane Jin, Dr Tiancun Xiao, Dr Benzhen Yao and Professor Peter Edwards. Its process converts CO₂ and CO directly into liquid hydrocarbons in a single reaction, to make sustainable aviation fuel and chemicals from waste carbon.

OXCCU closed £20.75m in Series B funding, backed by airlines including British Airways’ owner IAG and United Airlines, venture firms and two global energy companies. Its OX1 demonstration facility at London Oxford Airport has logged 1,000 hours producing liquid fuel, and it aims to make 10,000 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel a year before 2030. It won the Startups 100 2026 Sustainability Award.

Number 4 on the Startups 100 Index 2026.
