Dr James Dodwell, Dr Dan Brett and Dr Nick Van Dijk founded Oort Energy in 2021. It makes electrolysers that produce green hydrogen from almost any renewable source, including an off-grid commercial unit the size of a small shipping container.

Oort raised £6m in seed funding, has £2.5m of customer orders and two patents filed, and in April 2024 its 250kW demonstrator in Harlaxton was running continuously on solar power.

Number 36 on the Startups 100 Index 2025.
