About
Professor M. Francesca Cordeiro founded Novai in 2020 to bring DARC, a technology developed by researchers at University College London, to patients. DARC detects dying retinal cells: an injection before a scan on existing eye imaging equipment, with AI reading the images, to spot diseases such as glaucoma and AMD early.
Novai raised £500k in seed funding in 2020, has run 25 pre-clinical studies and multiple clinical tests, and has contracts with leading pharma and biotech companies. It says DARC can predict disease progression up to 36 months earlier than standard scans, and a Phase IIb trial is next.
Number 24 on the Startups 100 Index 2025.
