About
Helle Ehrenreich, Simon Bakshi and Neil Wands founded Micro Thermal Energy in London in 2022, inspired by electric vehicle drivers' range anxiety. Its Thermawynd technology adapts wind turbine mechanics into a self-contained underground unit that draws geothermal heat, for zero-emission baseload power independent of the grid and the weather.
Ehrenreich went full-time on the project without an income. The company won an Innovate UK Women in Innovation grant, is working with Cranfield University and has letters of intent from two large estates for pilot systems.
