About

Fraser Edwards, Ankur Banerjee and Javed Khattak founded cheqd in 2021. It is an open-source blockchain network for decentralised, self-sovereign identity, letting people and organisations exchange trusted data that they control, with built-in payment rails meant to create new ways to earn from that data.

cheqd has been on the Startups 100 Index three years running, climbing from 60th in 2024 to 34th in 2025 and 18th in 2026. In 2025 it was accepted into both the JPMorgan Chase Fintech Forward Program and the Barclays Scaleup Program.

Number 18 on the Startups 100 Index 2026.
