Justin Pike founded Burbank in Cardiff in 2021. Its PCI-certified Card-Present over Internet (CPoI) technology lets people pay online by tapping their card on their phone, just as they would in a shop.

In March 2025 Burbank completed the world’s first CPoI transaction and secured £5m in seed funding. In April 2025 it partnered with the creators of jPOS to offer the technology as a white-label product to acquirers and payment service providers around the world. It won the Startups 100 2026 Technology Award.
