Amelia Christie-Miller and Ed Whelpton founded Bold Bean Co in 2021 to make beans and pulses something people actually want to cook, sold in glass jars with colourful labels and backed by recipes and two cookbooks. The idea came after Christie-Miller tasted a jar of beans in Madrid.

The brand is stocked by Waitrose, Whole Foods, Sainsbury's and Tesco. On Dragons' Den in 2024 it took £50,000 from Deborah Meaden for 7.5% of the company. It has climbed from 86th on the index in 2023 to 21st in 2026 and won the Startups 100 2026 Marketing Award.
