Karl Lokko founded Black Seed VC in 2021 after a decade campaigning for a fairer business world, with the murder of George Floyd as the catalyst. It describes itself as Europe's first Black-led venture fund dedicated to Black founders, who it says received only 0.24% of venture capital over the past decade.

Investors in the fund include M&G Catalyst, Molten, LocalGlobe, West River Group and Atomico, and NatWest partners on its Lyan's Den pitch event. It won the Startups 100 2025 DEI Award.
