About

Jevan Nagarajah founded Better Dairy in 2020. The company uses precision fermentation with genetically modified yeast to make lactopontin (LPN), a breastmilk protein, as a nutritious and sustainable milk alternative. Nagarajah calculated that 40,000 litres of water are needed to obtain just 1kg of pure LPN from milk.

Better Dairy raised $22m in Series A funding in 2022. It has partnered with manufacturers and is in early discussions with leading infant formula brands, and it estimates its process cuts water use by 60% and greenhouse gas emissions by 85%.
