AUAR: robotic micro-factories for timber homes

  • Founded 2019
  • £2.6m seed
  • Factory profitable in six weeks

About

Mollie Claypool and Gilles Retsin founded Automated Architecture (AUAR) in 2019 to make construction sustainable. It licenses low-cost robotic micro-factories and software to house builders so they can build low-energy timber homes at scale.

AUAR raised a £2.6m seed round, and its first micro-factory, in Belgium, became profitable within six weeks of full production. It aims for 40 micro-factory partners by 2030.

Number 75 on the Startups 100 Index 2025.
