Pierre Dupuis

Adamo Foods: whole-cut steak alternatives grown from fungi

  • Founded 2021
  • £2m seed (2024)
  • Fewer than five ingredients

About

Pierre Dupuis founded Adamo Foods in the East Midlands in 2021. It makes plant-based whole-cut steak alternatives from mycelium, the root structure of fungi, grown by fermentation in large tanks, with fewer than five ingredients.

Dupuis has been vegetarian since he was 12 and worked in sustainability startups and the food industry; he started Adamo because so many plant-based products were ultra-processed. In 2024 the company closed a £2m seed round and won an Innovate UK grant, and it was nominated for the Startups 100 2026 Sustainability Award.

Number 20 on the Startups 100 Index 2026.
