About

Amaury van Trappen de Buggenoms and Dr Benjamin White founded A&B Smart Materials in 2022 with a team of materials scientists and engineers from Oxford and Cambridge. It makes a plant-based, biodegradable superabsorbent polymer to replace the petroleum-based material used in nappies, wound dressings and fertilisers.

The product is being tested with major global brands, one of the world's largest chemical companies has shown interest, and investors include the Henry Royce Institute's Industrial Collaboration Programme. The company aims to match the price of conventional polymers and license its technology to chemical manufacturers.
